Seniors Explore and Fellowship Together

First Christian Church has an active program for the young at heart. The program is directed by Martha and JR Simmons. Each month we meet together for a meal. It’s a great time of fellowship. filled with a delicious home cooked meal, good conversation and sometimes a game or program. An age limit is not set. Anyone can join in the fun and at most monthly meals we have a special guest or visitor. Some of the local law enforcement officers also join us for lunch each month.

This group also enjoys some day trips to places around the area. We include a lunch stop in the trip. Some of the places we have visited are Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, Fuji in Cookeville where we experienced their Hibachi Grill, Bread of Life Cafe in Liberty Kentucky and Dolly Parton’s Stampede in Pigeon Forge.

This group loves to celebrate all the holidays, and the Fellowship Hall, where we meet, is always decorated to reflect the current holiday. At Christmas we enjoy a traditional feast and then have some Christmas themed games that leave us laughing. And at Easter you should see us hunting eggs! To kick off spring we have a fish fry.

Of course, during the summer we enjoy a meal from our gardens. During October we enjoy our annual bingo game and then at Thanksgiving, turkey and dressing is on the menu. Some months we have entertainers who sing or perform for us and other times we have a class that helps us learn something new about technology such as how to use an Echo Dot or a class to sharpen our skills in using the internet or Facebook. We also work with the youth group to help fill boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
